A return to play.
I’ve been “playing store” since I was a child—shaping spaces, telling stories, arranging objects as invitations. In 1993, that lifelong instinct became reGeneration, a beloved project I co-founded with my best friend, Val. Over 25 years, what began as a mid-century modern furniture store evolved into something more—a gallery, a gathering point, a conversation with design. We curated, we experimented, we built a world.
When we closed our brick-and-mortar in 2018, Val and I each wandered into new landscapes. She deepened her design practice; I moved into the broader field of the arts—different expressions perhaps, but the same impulse: to connect, create, and stay curious.
Earlier this year, my friend Barbara—an artist turned builder with a poetic hand—proposed the idea of taking over a small ground-floor space she owned in Williamsburg. I wasn’t sure at first—my weekdays are full, structured. Barbara hoped for something alive, communal, unexpected and I realized I missed having a place to dream with others.
That spark became Broodworks—a name I had quietly registered during the pandemic, not knowing what it was for. Now I do.
Broodworks is a Saturday space. It’s a studio/storefront/salon where I can once again tinker, host, and collaborate with old friends and new ones. Taken on with my brother, this space has also become a family affair, one infused with warmth, humor, and shared vision. It’s not about selling things. It’s about making space for ideas, experiments, and beauty in progress.
Come by on a Saturday. You might find us mid-conversation, mid-process, mid-laughter. Come by, say hi and stay awhile.
