I dream of Fields is an exhibition of four artists whose textile and textile-adjacent works push the boundaries of image and object and blur the line between viewer and viewed. Inviting participants to enter a field of connection, each work can be seen from multiple perspectives. One may step onto Sheldon’s floor painting, wrap themself in Adelia’s pop-culture quilt she made for her daughter or Rogers’ hand-woven scarves, and stand under Smith’s twirling cartoon-inspired plush. Each artist references and re-mixes crafting techniques and cultural iconography, echoing with and against one another to suggest care, beauty and play in the ways we relate to each other and ourselves; past, present, and future.

In psychotherapy, field theory suggests that in each moment, everything is interconnected and affects the other. This show expands this therapeutic notion to include fields in nature, color, energy, archive, textile, technology, connection, growth, support and expansion. Rogers’ draws upon experience in the textile world, each piece imbued by all that brought her into her presence-focused practice of weaving. Adelia plays with the tension of container and contained within arrangements of found cultural materials. Sheldon is inspired by the entropy of nature, the unlikely yet everyday magic that every child beholds. Smith mines early memory to capture sensations of wonder, re-forming them into toy-like image/objects. Each artist is practiced in interweaving and overlapping their works to intentionally connect with one another through softness and proximity, inviting viewers as playmates and dreamers within the gallery.
